How are Rawr Bars different than other plant based protein bars?
-
Higher protein
-
Lower in sugar & carbs, without using fake sweeteners
-
No fortified or processed soluble fibers
-
No brown rice syrup, agave or honey
- Real food ingredients
1. Higher protein:
The Rawr Bar is one of the 1st plant based protein bars on the market to have 20g of protein. Your average plant based protein bar has anywhere from 8g-15g protein.
2. Lower in carbs:
Generally speaking plant based protein bars are higher in carbs because it can be hard to cover the taste and texture of plant proteins. Most vegan bars range from 23g carbs up to 50g carbs a bar! It's very hard to find a vegan protein bar lower than 20g carbs.
3. No fortified or processed soluble fiber sources.
Many protein bars use ingredients these days such as corn fiber, isomaltooligosaccharides (IMO), tapioca fiber or chicory root fiber. These forms of fiber are processed at high heat and are not recognized by the intestines as true fiber. They are also used as a secondary form of sweetener for protein bars.
To the body, these fiber sources are seen as a foreign object, they are not digested, but rather pass through the body. They can cause bloating, gas and constipation; which are the side effects we had experienced. Many companies use these types of fiber sources to be able to state on their labels that they have extremely low carbs or to speak to how high their fiber content is.
Finding a good protein bar without these fiber sources was very difficult for us. This was one of our largest pain points that led us to begin creating bars in our own kitchen.
4. We don't use brown rice syrup, agave or honey:
We use organic coconut nectar which comes from the blossoms of coconut trees. It has a lightly sweet, but slight mineral taste. It is high in trace minerals.
Several other protein bars use brown rice syrup. Brown rice syrup is received by the body the same way corn syrup is. Don't let the words "brown rice" fool you into thinking it is healthy.
Agave nectar has also been getting a bad rep recently because it has the highest fructose content of any commercial sweetener on the market. Honey in it’s raw form is seen as lower glycemic and nutrient dense, but the honey used in protein bars is not commonly raw, which means it is processed under high heat and may spike your blood sugar levels.
5. Real food ingredients (most are minimally processed or unprocessed) like flaxseed, extra virgin coconut oil, many raw, stone ground nut butters. Majority of our ingredients are Organic, all are Non-GMO. We do NOT use any food coloring, additives, natural flavoring, preservatives, sucralose, stevia or sugar alcohols. Our bars are COLD pressed, not baked.
Are Rawr Bars a meal replacement?
It truly depends on your goals and daily caloric intake. The Rawr Bar can certainly pass as a meal replacement or a filling snack on the run. Many customers eat their bar as a breakfast on the go and eat an apple or banana with it.
Some enjoy their bar as a a pre or post workout snack! The high protein and the healthy fats in the bar will hold you over and stabilize you.
Are Rawr Bars Vegan and/or Vegetarian?
Our bars are plant based, animal product free. They are Vegan as well as Vegetarian.
Why did you go the Vegan route?
We chose to make a vegan bar due to the primary factor that protein bars using whey protein were upsetting our stomachs. We decided to go dairy free, egg free, GF and so on, in hopes to avoid any food allergy or irritant one might have. We know the difficulty of finding a yummy bar that can work with a sensitive body.
Are your bars Organic?
All of our peanut butter based bars and most the cashew butter based bars use 100% organic ingredients.
100% Organic Flavors:
- Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter
- Mocha Chip
- Decaf Mocha Chip
- Peanut Butter Chip
- Lemon Poppy
- Cookie Dough
90-95% Organic
- Birthday Cake (sprinkles are only non-organic ingredient)
The Almond Butter based bars are 70-80% organic
- Dark Chocolate Almond Butter
- Double Dark Chocolate Mint
- Pumpkin Pecan
- Banana Nut
We’re on the lookout for an Organic almond butter that doesn’t make us significantly raise the price of those bars. Our pumpkin powder and banana powder is non-gmo; however not Organic. The Walnuts and Pecans in those flavors are Organic.
Our Sunflower based bars are also about 80-85% Organic as the Raspberry and Strawberry powder is not organic (they are non-GMO).
Every other ingredient in Dark Chocolate Raspberry and Dark Chocolate Strawberry is organic. Organic Raspberry or strawberry powder would require us charging a price for those flavors that would hinder many from being able to afford them.
Are you certified GF, Vegan Organic, Non-GMO or Kosher?
We are in process of growing our sales and name a bit more before we undergo this costly process. Our desire would to be to undergo getting these certifications in the year 2025.
We are currently in the final stages of getting Kosher Certified. Next we will pursue the Organic label for those particular flavors.
All our ingredients are sourced from companies that are certified GF, Vegan, Kosher as well as Non-Gmo. A large majority are also Organic.
Are your bars Keto friendly?
Depends on your daily net carb intake!
Our bars are naturally lower in net carbs with 3g fiber coming from our organic ground flax seed.
Our Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter, Dark Chocolate Almond Butter and Dark Chocolate Raspberry are the three flavors with the lowest net carbs. They are all 11g net carbs.
Our next lowest carb bars are Double Dark Chocolate Mint, PB Chip, Mocha and Decaf with 12g net carbs.
Pumpkin Pecan and Banana Nut are 13g net carbs.
Cookie Dough and Lemon Poppy are 14g net carbs.
Birthday Cake is the highest in carbs and is more of a treat bar (17g net carbs).
Where are your products made?
Our bars are handmade in our certified manufacturing facility in Rogers, MN. We are getting ready to build a facility in Big Lake, MN in 2025.
Do you have any nut free flavors?
We have a Dark Chocolate Raspberry bar that is year round. We have a seasonal Dark Chocolate Strawberry Bar we bring out around Valentine's Day.
These bars are made from Organic, Raw Sunflower Seed Butter and have no nuts in them; however they are MADE on the same equipment of our other bars that DO contain nuts.
What is Rawr Bar shelf life?
Rawr Bars last 1 month out of the fridge, 6 months in the fridge and 12 months in the freezer. We recommend to store them in the fridge when home, but they are fine out and about! They do not "spoil" or become hazardous to consume after 6 months in the fridge; however they lose their freshness in taste.
Why do you recommend fridge storage?
Rawr Bars use only the freshest ingredients. We use real nut and seed butters (most are organic and some are raw) that preserve best cold and we do not use fillers or binders. Many of our bars have a thin dark chocolate coating that can be more susceptible to melting in heat.
